The Greatest Generation

One student gave a presentation in my class on FDR's "War Message," a speech that called on Americans to avenge the Pearl Harbor attack. At the end of her presentation, she asked the class to imagine what Americans would do if a similar attack were to take place now. A number of students chorused, almost in unison, "We would go and get 'em!"

And then Matt (*obviously not his real name) said: "What we would do if we were attacked by the Japanese?"

Presenter: "Um, yeah... say the Japanese attacked us, what would we do?"

Matt: "Oh, we would attack Iraq."
