Kleptocrat Nation

Mutuma Mathiu of The Sunday Nation (Kenya) does not think Kenyans are rational:

"Last week I proposed that very few electoral decisions in Kenya are rational. The majority of you were happy to disagree.

On Friday, Transparency International reported the findings of a survey which found that 62 per cent of Kenyans would take a bribe. And 79 per cent of the bribe-takers would actually vote for whomever corrupted them. The figure is higher for the urban centres; 87 per cent would line up behind the briber, even if it were a goat." (Mutuma Mathiu, "Is Democracy Worth the Pain?", Sunday Nation, 9/25/2005).
